Our program
The ARMC Neurosurgery Residency Program, part of the OPTI-West educational consortium, is the largest Accredited Osteopathic Neurosurgery program in the U.S. and the second largest Neurosurgery program in California.  The program attracts outstanding candidates from across the country.  There are currently twelve faculty Neurosurgeons, in addition to faculty from other specialties with whom the Neurosurgery Residents rotate (including Neurologists, General Surgeons, Orthopedic Surgeons, Vascular Surgeons, Radiologists, Pathologists, Physiatrists, Pain Specialists, etc.).
ARMC Neurosurgery Residents also rotate through four other hospitals, including Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley (which is a formal co-sponsor of the residency program), Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana, Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, and Redlands Community Hospital.  While the training emphasizes mainstream general neurosurgery, residents are exposed to significant volumes of brain tumors, complex spine instrumentation, vascular neurosurgery, craniospinal trauma, and neurointensive care.  All residents are encouraged to pursue subspecialty fellowship training after graduation, and thus far 100% of our graduates have gone on to subspecialization.
Clinical acumen is greatly emphasized, with daily bedside teaching and rounds; there is ample clinic experience under close faculty supervision.  The pursuit of academic excellence is an integral part of this Program, with frequent didactic teaching sessions, regular journal clubs, case conferences, and board exam preparation sessions.  Overall, the primary goal of this Program is to produce compassionate and competent mainstream Neurosurgeons with impeccable technical skills, exceptional clinical and surgical judgment, and a passion for life-long learning.
